What to expect at the first appointment?Initial Fit Assessment (5 Minutes): We start with a brief discussion to ensure our services align with your needs. If our services align with your needs, we'll move forward together with the comprehensive evaluation. Comprehensive ADHD Evaluation: A clinical assessment conducted by Dr. Lee to understand your ADHD symptoms and their impact on your daily life. Symptom History & Assessment Tools: We gather detailed information about your symptoms and may use standardized questionnaires to evaluate their severity. Diagnostic Impression & Treatment Options: Dr. Lee will share his initial diagnosis and discuss potential treatment plans. If additional psychiatric care is needed beyond our clinic's scope, we will provide appropriate referrals. Note for Minors: The evaluation consists of two 1-hour sessions over two days. The first session is dedicated to gathering history from both the parent and the child. The second session is for reviewing parent/teacher rating scales and discussing the assessment findings along with any recommendations.

How do you treat ADHD?Our ADHD Treatment Approach We use proven methods to treat ADHD based on extensive research and experience. Stimulant medications like Adderall are highly effective, but we carefully weigh their risks and benefits before starting. During treatment, we monitor how you respond to your medication and adjust it as needed to ensure it works best for you. Besides medication, we may suggest behavioral therapy, lifestyle changes, or other strategies to help manage ADHD. Our goal is to provide personalized care that meets your unique needs and challenges.

Do you treat other psychiatric conditions? Our Clinic’s Focus Our clinic specializes in diagnosing and treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and its related challenges. We focus exclusively on ADHD. At your first appointment, we begin with a 5-minute screening to determine if our services are a good fit for your needs. During the evaluation, our psychiatrist will also check for any other psychiatric conditions. If we identify additional conditions, we will inform you and recommend seeking treatment elsewhere, as these are not within our clinic’s scope. Our priority is to ensure you receive the most suitable and effective care for your mental health.

Can you prescribe controlled substances like Adderall without an in-person visit?Yes, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been temporary flexibilities in telemedicine regulations, allowing for the prescription of controlled substances without requiring an in-person visit. This measure was implemented to ensure patients' access to necessary medications while minimizing the risk of exposure to the virus. You may read more about these flexibilities here. However, it's essential to note that these flexibilities are set to expire in December 2025. After this period, patients may be required to have an in-person visit for the prescription of controlled substances. The original regulation, set forth by the Ryan Haight Act, mandates in-person visits for prescribing controlled substances. You may read more about the Ryan Haight Act here. Please be aware that in-person visits may be required for the prescription of controlled substances after the expiration of these flexibilities in December 2025. However, there may be an option for in-person visits based on updated regulations. Our clinic will continue to keep patients informed of any updates or changes to these regulations.
-
Do you offer in-person visits? All appointments are conducted via video. The possibility of in-person visits is currently under review, pending the DEA's decision on telemedicine flexibilities. We will update our patients as soon as more information is available.

Do you see people who do not live in the Santa Barbara area?Yes, it is possible for individuals outside of the Santa Barbara area to receive evaluation and treatment at our clinic as long as they are physically located within California. However, it's important to note that due to shortages of medications used to treat ADHD, many pharmacies may deny prescriptions from clinics located outside of their service area. While our clinic can still evaluate and provide recommendations for treatment, please be aware that the clinic is not responsible for pharmacies denying prescriptions due to these policies. We advise individuals from outside the area to inquire with their local pharmacies regarding their prescription policies before scheduling an appointment.
-
Can the clinic assist with paperwork? Our clinic can assist with paperwork related to school or testing accommodations when it is medically indicated. Please discuss your specific needs and requirements with our team during your appointment, and we will provide the necessary support and documentation as appropriate. However, we do not handle custody, forensic, disability, or leave-related paperwork. For these matters, we recommend reaching out to your primary care physician for assistance in navigating those processes.
